Relaunch of fundraiser to support community projects

An established non-league football club is relaunching its fundraising lottery to raise money for youth and community projects.

Ryman League Club AFC Sudbury has rebranded its Gold Lottery and is now widely publicising the scheme in the hope of raising thousands of pounds for projects to support young people in Sudbury and the surrounding area.

Its first aim is to raise money to buy a minibus to provide transport for the club’s teams, including its youth teams. The vehicle would also be used for the club’s numerous community activities.

Future funds from the Gold Lottery will go towards supporting the club’s expanding academy. The academy was launched in 2014 – in partnership with the Ormiston Sudbury Academy - to provide 16 to18 year olds with nationally recognised qualifications in both the sporting and academic sector. The academy operates on a full-time basis and currently offers two year courses for up to 30 people.

Keith Morris, club director, said: “We have a very strong community ethos at the club and we know we have an important role to play in supporting young people in the area. The Gold Lottery has fallen a little flat lately, so we have decided to give it a really big push. We have rebranded the scheme to create awareness within the club and across the community to encourage more participation. The success of the relaunch will determine the future projects the club can introduce for young people and the community.”

The Gold Lottery will be drawn each week, with a first prize of £100.00, plus other cash prizes. People can join the scheme for as little as £1 per week. For more information telephone
